It was all joy and fun yesterday 27th February, at the university of Education, Winneba when the Upper West Students Union, UEW chapter had a grand durbur. The programme which was held at the south assembly saw a great number of students from upper west regions and other sister regions in their smocks in attendance.
The theme for the durbur was the role of the graduate in alleviation of poverty in the UPPER West region. Key personalities at the occasion were Major Rtd Albert Donchebe, director of GBC, Dr. Camynta Baezie, Hon Edward Dery, Mp for Lambussie-Karnie who represented the upper west parliamentary caucus. Also present were some lecturers of the university from the region.

Speaking on the theme of the day, major Donchebe urged students to strive for academic excellence as that is the best way to solve the problem of the region. He stressed the need for students to stay united and seek self development first.
Dr. Camynta who chaired the occasion passionately appealed to the students to think of innovative ways of developing the resources of the region. He cited moringa, baobab known in Dagaare as ‘tuo’, pito and others as examples of resources that can be developed and marketed. Dr. Camynta reiterated that university education does not necessarily mean one must be employed by government, it also means one is ready to create employment.
Hon. Edward Dery on his part called on the students to be very vigilant and not to allow any politician use them for his or her personal gains especially those that can lead to violence.
Students were given the opportunity to contribute and ask questions. Many of them raised concerns about how we are often not proud of where we come from. The chairman urged all students to be

Prof. Henry Pufaa, a lecturer at the university and chief patron of the union was grateful to the invited guest for their time and assured them that students will take their words seriously and work on them.
